Early Signs of Pregnancy Before Missed Period

A missed period is the first and foremost sign of pregnancy in most women. Pregnancy is measured as 40 weeks, with the first day being the beginning of your last period. Hence, pregnancy technically starts at the end of second week, or the start of week three, depending on your ovulation date. Ovulation marks fertile period of a female body, and it also determines the date of conception. In an average cycle, ovulation occurs between days 13 and 20. During ovulation, the ovaries would release an egg into the fallopian tubes, and if sperms also travel to fallopian tubes at the same time, conception occurs.

The early signs of pregnancy before missed period/ early signs of pregnancy 1st week include:

  • Mood swings/ moodiness.
  • Swollen and tender breasts.
  • Vomiting and nausea.
  • Fatigue
  • Increased urination.
  • Mild abdominal cramping.
  • Food aversions or cravings.
  • Constipation
  • Headache
  • Increase in basal body temperature.
  • Feeling dizzy or lightheaded.
  • In some cases, women also experience implantation bleeding that is generally light pink in color and brief- does not require a tampon or pad.

As the hormones levels are low in the initial phase, home pregnancy tests may show negative results. Therefore, it is better to do home pregnancy test at least a few days after the missed due date.

Early Signs of Pregnancy First 2 Weeks

The early signs of pregnancy in the first 2 weeks and early signs of pregnancy 1st week are hard to detect, as the hormones that trigger the symptoms take some time to develop. Due to the same reason, home pregnancy tests do not register pregnancy until four weeks- or after a missed period. Therefore, it is better to wait for a few days after missed period to take a home pregnancy test and schedule an appointment with the gynecologist after 8 weeks of the last period.

Early Signs of Pregnancy Urine

During pregnancy, the amount of blood in body increases, causing the kidneys to produce extra fluids. These fluids are collected in the bladder, causing one of the early signs of pregnancy urine- more than normal urination.

Early Signs of Pregnancy After IUD Removal

As IUD does not affect hormone production, women can conceive immediately after the removal. The early signs of pregnancy after IUD removal start with a missed period, and include all the usual signs of pregnancy, including nausea, sore breasts, fatigue, and increased urination.

For more information and professional opinion regarding pregnancy after IUD removal, consult an expert gynecologist at Al Hilal Hospital, Bahrain.

Early Signs of Pregnancy After hCG Injection

HCG- human chorionic gonadotropin- is a hormone naturally produced in the placenta during pregnancy. hCG injections are known to mimic signs of pregnancy- which means that you might experience some of the early signs of pregnancy even if you are not pregnant. The early signs of pregnancy after hCG injection are the same as natural pregnancy, and include missed menstrual cycle, fatigue, breast tenderness and frequent urination.

Consultation Before Getting Pregnant

Ideally gynecological consultation should be done at least 3 months prior to the planned pregnancy. This is to prepare the women for safe motherhood. Generally, the pregnancy preparation consultation involves optimization of blood sugars, and body weight. It also includes screening for health conditions like heart disease, hypertension, renal disease etc. which might adversely affect the woman’s health, in case of unplanned pregnancy.

In certain conditions, like hypertension and epilepsy, dose of medication must be revised/ modified to minimize the harm to the fetus during pregnancy and some heart diseases may require surgery before attempting pregnancy. Elevated blood sugars in early pregnancy increases the odds of fetal cardiac anomalies and neural tube defects- hence, control of blood sugars is important.

Women are advised to consume folic acid supplement at least one month before the planned pregnancy. This can prevent neural tube defects in the fetus to a certain extent. It is always better to screen for sexually transmitted diseases before planning pregnancy. Ideally susceptibility to Rubella infection should also be checked and if found not immune Rubella vaccine may be given. However, Rubella vaccine is contraindicated in pregnancy, so pregnancy should be ruled out before vaccination and effective contraception should be advised for at least one month after Rubella vaccination. Immunity against Rubella is important because contracting Rubella in pregnancy can result in fetal cataract, microcephaly, cardiac defects, and hearing defects.

If a pregnant lady has never checked her blood sugars before, it is better to have a consultation as early as possible as control of sugars are utmost important in early pregnancy. If a pregnant lady is on any medication, then also an early gynecology consultation may benefit as certain drugs may need to be changed to safer options. If you have abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding, you will need an ultrasound to rule out tubal pregnancy. Therefore, an early gynecological consultation
